Verbal abuse or harassment

Verbal abuse or harassment can be considered a hate crime but may not. You can refer to  the section of this toolkit on hate crime for further details.

Harassment is when someone repeatedly behaves in a way that makes you feel disturbed, distressed or threatened. There are different types of stalking and harassment and anyone can be victim.

If the associated behaviour is of a criminal nature you need to report this to the Police immediately. You must tell them if you are concerned about your safety.

Once you have reported it to the Police, please contact your Housing Officer with the incident report number or crime reference and the officer’s name so we can contact them and work with them and agree the next steps with you and the Police.

If the behaviour has been ongoing, please complete our ASB diary sheets with dates and times of the incidents and send these to your Housing Officer.
