Tenancy

Information and guidance about your tenancy.

7. Can I give my tenancy to somebody else or succeed a family member’s tenancy?

You cannot give your tenancy to somebody else except via mutual exchange or through a court order.

You may be able to succeed a tenancy of a family member if they die, but this will depend on the terms of their tenancy and whether you have been living at the property as your main and principal home.

It is important to note that you may succeed the tenancy and not necessarily the same property. For example, if the property is larger than your new household requirements, then we may offer you an alternative property.

Tenants only have one right of succession. This means that, if the tenancy has already been succeeded once, you will not be able to succeed the tenancy.
