9. Can I exchange my property?
You can swap your property with another property within Soho, another social landlord (housing association or local authority) and out of the area or even across the country. It is called a mutual exchange.
This process may help to find you a home that better suits your needs, whether it’s for more space, downsizing, relocating for work, or being closer to family.
You can register free of charge with the mutual exchange service HomeSwapper.
In order to be eligible for a mutual exchange you have to meet the following requirements:
- Be a social housing tenant with a secured tenancy, assured tenancy or fix-term tenancy
- Have written permission from your landlord to carry out the exchange
- Not in serious rent arrears or in breach of your tenancy agreement
- Have no ongoing legal action against you or your tenancy (e.g. anti-social behaviour orders, possession proceedings)
- The exchange is suitable—meaning the new property is not too large or too small for your household’s needs
We can provide support to guide you through this process. Just drop us a message on housing@sohoha.org.uk.
